DePaul University Selects Antarctica Systems' Visual Net for Project Decision Making

Vancouver, BC, September 13, 2004 - Antarctica Systems Inc. (ASI), an enterprise provider of Business Performance Management (BPM) software, today announced that DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the nation, has licensed Antarctica's Visual Net 4.2 business performance management software as part of their initiative to further develop IT Portfolio Management projects.

Visual Net will enable DePaul University to make better project decisions by allowing Project Managers to visually and intuitively explore their portfolio of projects to gain a deeper understanding of tasks, and showing actual versus estimated time required for project completion. Visual Net also helps work through data bottlenecks by breaking data into categories and displaying them in visual landscapes. Users of the software are able to identify problems before they become critical issues and take corrective actions. The visual landscapes will show DePaul project managers where particular projects are ahead or behind schedule, in addition to where they should be according to time spent.  Additionally, the university can filter data by type of task, including those open, closed and not yet started.  With Visual Net, DePaul University will also be able to facilitate “student intervention” by helping to manage the student life cycle as well as complement its current financial and operational reporting capabilities.

“An overabundance of information makes decision-making increasingly difficult,” notes Professor Vince Kellen, DePaul University Professor and Vice President of IT. “There is more than enough data out there. However, we need tools like Visual Net to help explore this massive amount of data to discover opportunities for improvement and streamline decision-making. Initially, the IT Portfolio Management application will be used by university executives and project managers. We intend to use the application in other areas of the university, including our student retention efforts.”

“People can only take action based on what they know. DePaul has recognized that they can realize significant operational improvements by providing their decision-makers with Antarctica's visual exploration capabilities so that they have the information needed to take action.” says Antarctica's CEO, Barry Yates. “DePaul's decision to license Visual Net for such diverse applications is further evidence that Antarctica can help organizations drive tangible performance improvements by helping to reduce the gap between strategy and execution.”
