Alliance Combines Powerful Categorization With Data Mapping For More Visual, Intuitive Navigation
San Mateo, Calif., Nov. 28, 2001 -- Semio Corporation, the leading provider of automated indexing and content categorization software, announced today that it is forming a technology alliance with Antarctica Systems, pioneer developer of visual mapping technology, to offer enterprises a unique Graphical User Interface for their categorized data, providing users with an expanded, visual framework for finding and sharing data. Semio and Antarctica will cooperatively sell and market their respective products, SemioTagger and Visual Net, to organizations seeking solutions for the management and visualization of unstructured data. Use of the combined products results in improved search relevancy and more intuitive navigation of datasets. Semio uses a patented, linguistic-based categorization method and statistical clustering techniques to find the most relevant phrases and concepts within unstructured information matched to a customized taxonomy. Semio then organizes massive volumes of online content into easily understood, topic hierarchies by linking information based on the concept(s) contained in the phrases. After SemioTagger has categorized and tagged data, it is fed through Antarctica's Visual Net engine, which creates graphical, information-rich, large-scale maps of the newly structured data. "SemioTagger and Visual Net are totally complementary," said Tim Bray, founder of Antarctica. "Visual Net makes the work done by the Semio engine obvious in an intuitive, visual way and adds to the already strong value proposition. SemioTagger allows enterprises who want access to the superior Visual Net interface to get it by bringing out the structure hidden in their existing information." "We are pleased to be partnering with Antarctica and offering our customers yet another option for the navigation and visualization of categorized data," said Roger Phillip, vice president of marketing and business development, Semio. "Mapping is a powerful way of presenting data and Antarctica is unquestionably a leader in the field of visual data presentation."
