Visual Net

A typical scenario within an organization is as follows:

A business user sees a problem area on a summary-level dashboard.  In order to investigate and explore the issue she must either:

  1. ask someone from IT or a power user to run specific reports/queries for her or
  2. consult large numbers of detailed reports.

It is very difficult for a business user to move from identifying an issue, exploring and investigating it, and taking action in one place and without having to rely on IT.

With Visual Net (VN), a user can see a problem in a dashboard, explore the issue in our visual reporting interface, then produce appropriate report(s) to take action.  The process can also work in reverse where data is pumped from detailed reports such that issues can be investigated in Visual Net. Visual Net bridges the gap between dashboards and reporting

Integration With Business Intelligence Tools

Visual Net bridges the gap between summary dashboards and detailed reporting.  As such, it can be launched via a link from a BI platform and/or a user can launch a report from within VN.  This level of integration allows organizations to leverage the data and metrics already in place with their BI tools and extend the use of their information output and analysis routines.  Visual Net makes use of current technology standards and products like XML, Web services, Linux, and MySQL for ease of integration.  Visual Net communicates with the end user via a standard browser.

Unique, Intuitive Interface

To achieve high levels of user adoption, VN provides a very intuitive, interactive and highly visual interface.  Very little training is required before end users are able to use Visual Net and start seeing benefits.  Many of the principles within VN are based on the work of Edward Tufte - the renowned expert on the presentation of information.

VN screens use size, shape and color to draw the user's attention to the most critical issues or opportunities.  Users also control how much or little detail they would like to see.  They investigate by clicking on the intuitive interface and drilling down.

Compelling user experience

Business users are able to visually filter information instead of using queries.  By relying on a "search-like" filter Antarctica has introduced a high level of flexibility in the way business users interact with data, giving them improved control over what they view.  Visual Net users can filter out rows of information they do not wish to include in their analysis. Often, Visual Net screens will contain 15 or more summary level metrics that span different parts of the organization. Each time a user 'mouses over' a summary area, the cross-functional metrics appear to provide for a 360-degree perspective of the situation. This means that a business decision maker has an almost unlimited ability to work with, query and analyze information without needing to learn a query language or rely on the support of an IT analyst.  VN allows users to:

  • See multiple dimensions of information on one screen without having to go to multiple screens, reports, spreadsheets etc - VN is not limited to 2 or 3 dimensions as real life problems are not two-dimensional
  • Visually drill down to investigate issues
  • Visually filter large amounts of data and have the results presented visually to glean insights
  • See summary and relevant details, all in context
  • See customized views with one click - i.e., by region, margin, product line, time period etc.
